Expository Essay

In the first few chapters of Things Fall Apart. The main character Okonkwo does not want to be anything like his father Unoka because, his father was a lazy man. Unoka went to the spirits one day and asked them why his crops wouldn't grow and they said, The reason why your crops wouldnt is because your always taking shortcuts. Later in Unoka’s life he became ill and died. He was not buried instead he was left in the evil forest to die. When Okonkwo has to take care of the farm he also has to take care of a child that is not one of his own Ikemefuna. Ikemefuna is a prisoner of war.
Okonkwo only follows the tradition when he had the yam dinner at his house. The only time he is not following tradition is when he beat his wife during peace week. Okonkwo is not really a product of Umuofia, because he does not owe anyone anything. If he does owe anyone anything, than he would get mad and nobody wants him to get mad. The characters in the book so far are Okonkwo, Unoka, Ikemefuna, Nwakibie and the seven wives of Okonkwo. The book takes place in Umuofia a village in Africa. Okonkwo is following the tradition and not following the tradition. The theme of the story is tradition because, Okonkwo is not following the tradition of peace week. But Okonkwo is following the tradition of the yam festival.
Okonkwo follow the tradition of the yam festival because he was able to show his hospitality for his people. Okonkwo can not follow the tradition on peace week because, he beat one of his wives for lying to her. He had to go to the spirits to state his problem, but they told him that it was peace week and that even if someone does not do something that you like you still should not beat her. Okonkwo was sent to get a few things for the spirit, but he decided to go with the old tradition which was being dragged across town.
Okonkwo was following certain rules. The main reason why he could not follow all of the rules was because he had anger issues. The thing that I learned from the first few chapters was that the men could have as many wives as they want as long as you can take care of them. In my opinion I think that the book is good so far and i can’t wait to finish it.

GEOGRAPHY

KEY LEARNING: In geography we focused on different geographical features such as mountain ranges, deserts
We also used google maps to look at different countries.

MOST ENJOYABLE: Teaching the class about the Arctic Desert on my first day. Everyone including
the teacher thought that a desert was a hot dry and sandy place such as the Sahara desert.

EASIEST: Watching a Geography Now video and picking and showing a country in google maps.

MOST DIFFICULT: Making my presentation for presentation day.

1.The United States of America is 88,693 square miles bigger than China. China is 3,705,390 sq mi and the USA is 3,794,083 sq mi. The population of China in 2017 was 1.386 Billion people and the population of the in 2017 USA was 325.7 million people.
2. China and USA both have geographical features such as beaches, bays, wetlands, grasslands and deserts, mountain ranges and plateaus. But USA has more lakes and rivers than China, and China has more mountain ranges and deserts than the USA.
3. The Tiananmen Square protests took place in 1989. It was a protest held by students, intellectuals and labour activists. the protest was held because most of the people did not like how the Communist Party ran the country. In the protests some people wanted a change towards a democracy. later in the protest the government used force to end the protest. On June 4 tanks and soldiers to attack the protestors, 3000 people died in that massacre.
4.The Ordos Desert, also known as the the Muu-us or bad desert. the desert is located in the northeastern part of China. The Ordos is a mixture of clay and sand.
Medved - the Russian word for 'bear.'
Russia's bear symbolizes there vast country.
Many of Russia's enemies made a mistake of thinking that Moscow was only a few hundred miles away but it was more than that. The cause of that mistake resulted in them run out of supplies.
5. Shenzhen is the Silicon Valley of hardware, because they produce all types of computer hardware.
6. The documentary was talking about how People in Shenzhen do not follow the copy right rule because there is no copy right rule.
7.The government allows people to improve on a design for example an iPhone, In Shenzhen somebody may invent an iPhone that runs on android technology, and then later somebody may evolve that iPhone into a new iPhone with a face recognition.
Shenzhen is a fast growing city, many years ago Shenzhen was just a farming country and many people were living in poverty because of that. Now they have a city of technology and hardware, and many people can open up their own businesses because of that.

Good Job. This is such a great read Aalim. You appear to be older and a bit more advanced than seventh grade. I know if you continue to work really hard and stay focused you will be that engineer or pilot, that you inspire to be.

Aalim, I am very proud of you! Keep up the great work!! Making your own computer game sounds like fun. Do you know if there are any computer games based on the African experience, i.e., featuring African families, super heros, and/or themes?
Never stop learning!

May GOD continue to bless you & yours!!!

WOW! Aalim, I am so impressed with what you are learning in only the 7th grade. I, too, read Things Fall Apart, but I was IN COLLEGE!! I also aspire to learn how to play chess...maybe, one day you can teach me :) It's so wonderful that you are actually enjoying learning. I pray that you continue to enjoy learning. Keep striving, and insha'Allah, you will fulfill your dream of becoming an aerospace engineer.

WOW! I am thoroughly impressed by all the wonderful things that you learned in only 7th grade. I remember reading Things Fall Apart, but I was IN COLLEGE!!! I still aspire to learn how to play chess. Maybe one day. Today, I learned that the USA is bigger than China. I always thought that China was bigger because of their massive population. Thank you Teacher Aalim. I pray that you continue to enjoy learning and continue to challenge yourself.
