Ayodele's 1st Semester Presentation Page 2019

Welcome to my Course Presentation Page for the first semester of this school period. My name is Ayodele Duduyemi. I am 13 years old, in the 8th grade and I live in Atlanta Georgia. I like playing tennis, making YouTube videos, and making music. The courses I'm enrolled in are FLP (Family Lore Project), Awesome Algebra 1, Melanin Mastery, Literature and Composition, Spanish, ECMC Mathematics Competition, Afrikan Writers and Publishers and Economic Conundrum. On this page, I'll talk about my key learning's, difficulties, most enjoyable, and easiest. I will also present excerpts from my work during this semester. Thank you for taking the time to visit my page. Please take time to review my presentations and writing below, and comment or rate my work. Please note: thoughtful comments include both what you like, what you learned (if anything), and how I might improve. Thanks again. :)

Awesome Algebra 1
This is a class that teaches Algebra

Key learning:

My Key learning was when we learned about the order of operations. Learning the order of operations helped me understand PEMDAS better so that I would have an easier time learning algebra one. In the class, we did three phases of the order of operations and each time the problems that we had to do using PEMDAS got harder and harder but this was helpful to me because I was able to find a way to get the problems do, have them be right and not spend a lot of time trying to solve them.

Most Enjoyable:
I enjoyed making the number sets poem. We got an assignment to take all the number sets that we learned about a create a song, poem, rap or dance with our group. Even though this was kind of hard it was pretty fun to do. I was in a group with my friends Kennedy and Hannah. It took us about two days to get the poem done but in the end, it was pretty good and funny too.

Most Difficult:
The most difficult thing for me to do was the homework. It was not the problems that were hard it was the number of problems we had to do. We had to do twenty or fifty problems for homework and for me it was hard to get all of it done in the time that we had.

Easiest:
The easiest thing for me was learning about like terms. All I had to do was look for a pattern in a problem and I am very good at recognizing patterns. Once I understood what like terms were it became very easy for me to do problems that involve grouping like terms.

My Algebra Presentation:

Melanin Mastery
This is a class were we are thought about melanin in different parts of our body and how it functions in those parts. we also learn were melanin is in nature.

Key learning:
My key learning was when we learned about ionic and covalent bonds. We learned about how they are made and what things bond to create certain elements. At first, understanding what ionic and covalent bonds were was very hard for me. Even if I was able to do an assignment that had to do with those bonds and I got a good grade on that assignment I still had trouble fully understanding the information. Because my mom studied and understood what ionic and covalent bonds were and what they did she helped me understand that information.

Most Enjoyable:
I enjoyed learning about how melanin helps our skin age slower than white people's skin does. Learning this just reminded me that black women do not need all of this makeup to make them look younger, we just need to take care of our skin and we will look way younger than the white people who are the exact same age as us.

Most Difficult:
The most difficult thing for me was keeping track of the LMS. The LMS is where we put our assignments so that the teacher can look at and grade them. Normally the assignment that we got in class was the assignment that we had to do and there was nothing changed or taken out of it. That assignment is the one that I put in my assignment book and do. The thing I had trouble with was one, checking back at the LMS to see if one of the teachers added anything to the assignment because if we did not do that part of the assignment we would get points taken off and get a lower grade. The second thing I had trouble with was making sure I got my assignments (that were already done) into the LMS before class or before the assignment closed because at some point even if you had the assignment and you presented it in class, the teacher might have forgotten and given you a bad grade because there is nothing in the assignments that shows that you did the work.

Easiest:
The easiest thing for me was making all of the presentations we had to make. I think this was easy for me because I am practiced that doing it and finding the information that I needed to make the presentations were not as hard as I expected it to be most of the time and that allowed me to get the presentations done without worrying about them too much.

My Melanin Presentation:

Literature and Composition

Key learning:
My key learning was learning about different note-taking techniques. I knew that there were multiple ways that you could take notes but I never knew the names of them except for two techniques before this class. The techniques that I knew of were the one that I use with is Cornell notes and the other is mind mapping with is something that my mother taught me a long time ago. An example of another technique that I did not know about is the bullet point note-taking technique. After learning about this technique I realized that I have been using it when taking notes at lectures without even knowing that it was actually a way that people took notes.

Most Enjoyable:
I enjoyed reading the piano lesson. Even though the book was long and at some point just a little bit hard to understand I still liked the dialogue in the book and liked that I could relate to almost all the characters in some way and see with character is most like me. We read the part of the book in class and the other part of it by ourselves. Reading this book in class was kind of funny because we all had to read with an accent to make ourselves sound like that character and hearing some of my classmate's accents gave me a good laugh at times.

Most Difficult:
There was nothing about the class or about the assignments that were very difficult for me. Sometimes some assignments would take me a little longer to do then what I would like but there wasn't anything that was just downright difficult for me.

Easiest:
The easiest thing for me was reading the speeches that we needed to read and writing essays based on pictures. Reading the speeches was easy because all I had to do was read them and try to figure out what they meant. Writing the essays were easy because I like art and I went to a teen art academy that taught me how to write stuff off of pictures and paintings.

My Literature and Composition presentation:

ECMC Mathematics Competition

Key learning:
My key learning was when we learned about percentages. We learned to take ten, twenty and twenty-five percent of a number(and others). I had a little bit of a hard time understanding how to do this but this information helped me with other assignments when we had to find the percentage of something. Learning how to do this also helped me with work in my other math class.

Most Enjoyable:
As much as I did not like them or say I did not like them I kind of enjoyed the corny jokes. At the beginning of every class, we say one or two corny jokes to get everyone a little energized and ready to get the last class of the day done and over with.

Most Difficult:
The most difficult thing for me was making sure that I keep in contact with the people I was doing group projects with and to make sure about the times we are supposed to be meeting up. That was really the only difficult thing for me.

Easiest:
I did not win any of the competitions but doing the mental math competitions was the easiest thing for me. All I had to do was try my best to figure out the answers to the equations that were asked without using paper or calculators.

My ECMC presentation:

Afrikan Writers and Publishers

Key learning:
My key learning was when I learned how to fill out the copyright for one of my books. Doing this was kind of hard because one, I ended up making multiple accounts, two, I had trouble finding the document that I was supposed to fill out and three the website would frequently have problems and prevent me from signing in to my account. Besides these three problems I learned a lot about what you need to know when filling out a copyright document.

Most Enjoyable:
I enjoyed seeing everyone progress in the production of their books. I also enjoyed knowing what my classmates are writing about and I can't wait until these books are done so I can read them.

Most Difficult:
There was not anything really difficult in this class for me. The only thing I had difficulty with was filling out the copyright documents.

Easiest:
The easiest thing in this class for me was doing the assignments. Almost all of the assignments were really simple and easy to do.

My Afrikan Writers presentation:

Economic Conundrum

Key learning:
My key learning was learning about other black towns besides Greenwood Tulsa. I had already known a little bit about Tulsa but I did not know anything about any of the other towns that we learned about. A few of their other towns are rosewood, Haiti district, and Sweet Auburn.

Most Enjoyable:
I enjoyed making the story about Tulsa Greenwood, Tulsa. We had an assignment to make a fictional story about Tulas and to show how we fought back. I liked doing this because even though there were somethings that I absolutely had to include in the story I still got to be creative and tell the story the way I wanted it to be told.

Most Difficult:
The most difficult thing for me was researching the black towns. This was hard because some of the towns had more easy to find information about them than others. When I researched the towns that did not have easy to find information I ended up spending a lot of time on them and it was harder for me to get the answers that I was looking for.

Easiest:
The easiest thing for me was reading the book Collective Courage. This was easy because all I had to do was read the chapter that I was supposed to read and take notes. The only hard part about this was the fact that the chapters were very long and at some point I kind of had to force myself to finish reading the parts that I was assigned to read.

Family Lore Project

Key learning:
My key learning was learning that I knew a lot of stories and I just had to think about it. Sometimes we would get prompt and when I read those prompts almost every time I remembered a story or I remembered an experience that could be a story.

Most Enjoyable:
I enjoyed listening to other people's stories. I enjoyed listening to the stories from my classmates because sometimes those stories would remind me of a story that I heard or an experience. I also just liked listening to their stories because I learned a little more about them and a good amount of the stories that my classmates told were very funny.

Most Difficult:
The only difficult thing for me was remembering to either think or ask for a story. This was hard because I was so focused on all the other homework that most of the time I would forget about getting some family lore.

Easiest:
For some reason, the easiest thing for me was coming up with stories on the spot. It was even easier if we were given some prompts but even if we weren't given anything it was still easier for me to come up with a story to tell.

My FLP presentation:

Spanish

Key learning:
My key learning was learning the alphabet in Spanish. Learning the alphabet in Spanish was a little tricky at first and hard for me to remember. Every morning I looked up the Spanish alphabet on my phone and listen to it until for about ten to fifteen minutes. Doing this every morning helped me a lot. After I learned this my mom was able to help me with my Spanish.

Most Enjoyable:
The most enjoyable thing for me was asking questions and talking to guests that came into our class. Occasionally people from all around the world who spoke French or Spanish would come into our class and we would get to ask them questions about themselves like: what was your favorite thing to do as a kid, what is your favorite food and what sports do you play.

Most Difficult:
The most difficult thing for me was making sure I was pronouncing the words correctly. Whether I was doing an assignment or making a dialogue with my classmates I always had trouble pronouncing words that I never heard before.

Easiest:
The easiest thing for me was doing Duolingo. Duolingo is an app that has all of theses lessons that will help you learn a language, in this class the language is Spanish. Doing this was easier because I use the app anywhere. It also almost felt like I was playing a game so that helped me to sat engaged and practice my Spanish more.
